Mechanochemistry Experts Meet for a Conference at RETSCH Headquarters

RETSCH hosted an exclusive group of experts in the field of mechanochemistry to explore challenges and possibilities.

At the company headquarters in Haan near Duesseldorf, 17 international scientists from 12 different institutions and 7 countries met to discuss technical possibilities and requirements in mechanochemistry under the guidance of RETSCH application experts.

Mechanochemistry enables production of chemical substances under the influence of mechanical forces. Unlike in classical chemistry, no solvents are used in the process. The combination of high efficiency, reduced energy consumption, and less environmental impact makes this technology a promising catalyst for advancing greener chemistry.

RETSCH has extensive expertise in the field of mechanochemical applications with ball mills. The goal of the conference for the company was to learn the requirements of scientists for mixer mills and planetary ball mills in order to further optimize the instruments for this field of application. This includes topics such as upscaling and throughput options, but also heating and cooling during the mechanochemical process in the mill.

As part of the conference, the mechanochemistry experts were able to experience practical demonstrations in the laboratories of the Ruhr University Bochum, the Max Planck Institute Mülheim and the RETSCH application laboratory.

For the scientists from all over the world, this conference with its mixture of theory and practice was an excellent opportunity to exchange information about the latest developments and challenges in the community.

For RETSCH's product experts, the conference provided a valuable platform to gain important insights for further optimization of ball mills for this innovative discipline.

RETSCH is looking forward to an ongoing fruitful exchange with scientists from all over the world and has firmly planned a continuation of the Mechanochemistry Conference next year.
