UK: Verder Liquids wins Best Business Award
Verder Liquids' UK subsidiary, Verder UK Ltd, has won the Best Business Award in the Best Health and Safety category. The jury of one of the UK's most important business awards thus recognized the successful introduction of Q-log, a program that has ensured greater workplace safety at all Verder UK sites since the beginning of 2022.
Companies that take corporate responsibility seriously make workplace safety one of their priorities – as Verder UK does. The Q-log initiative pays particular attention to ensuring that processes and rules relevant to health and safety are observed. Within just a few months after the system’s launch, the health and safety awareness of employees has been noticeably increased. Added to this is a suggestion scheme for improvements, which has been very well received by employees. The program encourages staff to report health and safety problems in the workplace and rate them using a color code. Red stands for very urgent, yellow for urgent and green for less urgent.
The reports are not necessarily just about large, obvious issues, says Paul Storr, Head of Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety at Verder UK: "Sometimes it can be easy to overlook the smaller details, but it's these changes that make the big differences, and that's the aim of the Q-log Safety Observation System. It is the perfect way for all to be involved in implementing changes that can make the difference, to ensure everyone's time at work is enjoyable, whilst identifying any hazards and controlling the risk“.
The chairman of the judges comments: "Well done to Verder Ltd for making its UK sites safer with its new health and safety initiative. Since January 2022, 25 observations have been logged by staff and those requiring action have already been completed. Verder Ltd has created the perfect way to encourage staff to take responsibility for their work environment and keep safe."
